LBS Competitions

Navteq (NYSE: NVT) the digital maps giant has a competition for LBS Developers going on. Registration for this Global LBS Challenge is already closed for European countries but challengers from the Americas and Asia Pacific can still sign up.

The aim is to "build innovative location-based services (LBS) that work with mobile phones and/or wireless handheld devices". The set-up is restricted: developers must use a Nokia N95 as the mobile device (SDKs can be found here) and of course Navteq maps as the mapping tool.

There are a couple of sponsors offering developer tools (Autodesk, Nokia, decarta, ptv, Telefonica and GPS World) or you can directly download the maps data for Paris and Barcelona (in case of the EMEA challenge). I didn't link to three of them, as they didn't set up a dedicated page for the challenge while the others did.
